Oralvisc, Glycosaminoglycan and Hyaluronic Acid

Adiposano® has shown promising results for relieving knee and joint pain among obese individuals. Each dose of Adiposano® features two primary active ingredients: 40mg of Oralvisc® and 200mg Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex (45%). Oralvisc® is a patented Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) complex containing high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid and other important compounds such as Dermatan Sulfate, other GAGs, collagen, and protein. Oralvisc® plays a critical role in alleviating pain by reducing inflammation in synovial fluid. The end result is a reduction in pain among patients with moderate to severe metabolic osteoarthritis. Oralvisc was developed in Europe and is not available anywhere else in the US.

CD44 expression is elevated in liver and white adipose tissue (WAT) during obesity and is believed to play a critical role in regulating several aspects of metabolic syndrome including inflammation and insulin resistance. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is frequently found in the joints of the human body. CD44 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) within a cell. Research suggests that macrophages undergo phenotypic changes dependent on the molecular weight of hyaluronan that correspond to either a pro-inflammatory response for low molecular weight HA, or a pro-resolving response for high molecular weight HA. Therefore, CD44 and HA play a vital role in our biological processes including inflammation. As a result, high molecular weight HA is increasing in popularity as a treatment for osteoarthritis and other joint problems.

What types of patients can be helped by Adiposano®?

Adiposano® is formulated specifically for people who are already diagnosed as obese. In most cases, patients who benefit from Adiposano® have a BMI of 30 or greater and display symptoms of Excess White Adipose Tissue Syndrome (EWATS) and/or degenerative joint pain associated with Osteoarthritis. Adiposano® may also provide nutritional support for overweight people seeking to increase lean body mass while reducing fat body mass.

How does Adiposano® work?

The mechanism of action of Adiposano has not been completely elucidated. Research suggests Adiposano® can inhibit adipogenesis (the creation of new fat cells), decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, and decrease inflammation both systemically and in the synovial fluid.  We believe that Adiposano® works block or restrict an upstream mechanism (perhaps CD44) which prevents a broad cascade of inflammatory response.
